    Hiya,

I really hope someone can answer my questions because I'm not really having much luck online.
I passed my theory test the other day and I have my application form filled out and eye test booked.
I'm just wondering can I physically go into my local motor tax office (ballymun) with all my documents and will I get my permit on the day?
I just really don't want to send my birth cert etc in the post because they won't accept copies.
    So eager and excited!

I didn't want to send my stuff in the post either so I went to Wicklow, where I paid and they took photocopies of my original documents and then sent me my permit a while later in the post. Not every tax office processes applications so double check that Ballymun do.

Just walk into Ballymun with all your forms filled in, passport, and photos. Pay the €15 and you will get it sent out in the post in about 3 working days. It's impossible to get one on the spot. You don't need a birthcert if you have your passport.

From what I can gather there's a huge backlog in the processing of learner permits. The system changed in January.

The cost of a learner permit is now €35 not €15.

I have to go to my local tax office and get my learners permit. Problem us, I don't have a passport (or a driver's licence, obviously) so I'm a bit stuck for ID.

I guess I'll have to bring as many identifying documents as I can and hope they can 'build a successful profile', as they call it.

Nope, not anymore unfortunately. I got the green paper license on my 17th birthday last october. Walked into the tax office and had it in 5 minutes. I've friends now waiting over a month for their shiny plastic card and still don't have it.
