Banger for Commute

Have one of these Carrea Subway bikes from Halfords (yes i know) on hold for me. They are currenly on sale at half price for €250. Is it worth it even at half price? I intend on using the bike for a short daily commute only 6 or 7K. I'm not to familiar with "hybrid" bikes and the groupset on this. It is shimano at least.

I dont want to use my good* road bike for commuting and would rather keep it for training and weekend spins and dont want to fit it with mudguards carriers etc.

I had a look at the bike today it looks sh!ter in real life, wheels are 26" mountain bike wheels and for a hybrid the tires on the bike look like they would fit a scambler. I may be able to fit slicker road tires to it. Any opionions on said bike? From looking on Adverts i dont think i'd get much better value second hand.

    * Entry level Aluminium Cube Peloton, but I love it!

If your route is any way level get a second hand fixie/singlespeed?
Very little maintenance and good fun to ride.

Yeah was thinking about it alright, Colm GTI on here a lovely one for sale but just a little out of budget. Only incline of moderate note is coming through small bump in glasnevin and minor incline up Ballygall Road. This yoke comes with a triple which is not at all needed really.

Have a fixie with 48-16, you'd be surprised what you'd cycle up.
48-18 or similar would do for a lot of routes. Check out any online gear calculator.
Mine cost me €100 to buy, part finished, and spent another €70 on it.
Don't even lock it when shopping in Lidl!
Reckon bike thief wouldn't get 100m without mangling himself(they take a bit of getting used to). Added bonus!

I bought a cheap hybrid last year for commutes etc, personally I think it was a waste of money. It is too heavy and the geometry is too different compared to my road bike. I bought a Carrera TDF recently for €200 second hand and I think its the perfect 2nd bike/commuter.

True that. Both my single speeds are 48-16 and Howth summit is no bother on them. They're ideal for cycling around Dublin. It's definitely worth considering.

No more than with any other road bike

Ok vanity is getting the better of me and I think I'm too cool and handsome to cycle this ugly Halfords yoke even if it is half price. Off to look for and research some single speeds or fixies.

Triban 3 from decathlon in Belfast, for 300 sterling it'll be nearly as good as your good bike 2 year guarantee too.

Where did you get yours ? Are the ones off ebay any use ?

What gearing would they generally come with ? I would have the malahide road on my daily commute
