The Subaru Forester S Turbo I bought a while back just died on the M50.

Wasnt there but the description is: First it started to "chug as if trying to cut out, in 5th gear at 100kph. Dropped gear and slowed down feathering throttle, chugging stopped however power gradually dropped and car slowed. Pulled over."

    Troubleshooting:
Pulled off fuel line to the filter, very little fuel seeped out. Cranked car, no spurt of fuel from priming or cranking.

    Checked Fuel Pump fuse
    Fuel pump relay is clicking
No Noise from fuel pump intank at all.

Power is going to the fuel pump assembly, though I didnt have the tools with me to remove the pump and check directly with spare battery.

Sounds like the Fuel pump to me, though odd it so rapidly died with no prior warning. No service with the car, so no idea if it was changed, car has over 200k miles on it! ;)

Could be pump alright, but before condemning it, confirm that it is receiving its 12v supply at the tank. The fact that the relay is clicking doesn't mean it is ok ;)

Yep, checked that alright, power is indeed going into the pump! :P The pump is making no noise, the clicking is the relay up front at the fuse box.

Id check for an earth at the pump,if you have then it probably is the pump.

The pumps on the Japanese cars are prone to just packing up suddenly like that.

If everything else is checked then the final test is to remove the pump and connect it directly to a 12v supply to see if its working.

As a much less technical test, give the tank a few hard thumps from underneath. Often the pump will come to life even for a few moments.

Forgot to update got a Walbro GS342 that day from Japanese Performance Ireland, fitted and perfect. The original pump was seized up until I took it out in hand and gave it a few wraps.
