Trouble? the 1.9 was one of the best engines in existence, pity to see it gone. now the 2.o is renowned for trouble alright.I know alot of people who have give out about the golfs electrics.

Has a 1.9 with a full VW service history in an 06 Passat.

It was a terrible car for reliability. I'll admit I seem to be in the minority for having a very unreliable one but just be aware that no engine is bullet proof.

Ive heard about bxe engines throwing a conrod even after full dervice history.

Then you have the usual givrn turbo egr flywheel injectors door locks handbake and everything else.

Im really afraid of the con rod tho.
What other 1,9 passat engines ate there

The 1.9TDi is generally considered better than the 2.0TDi, but I have seen them killed due to lack of servicing also.

The early 2.0TDi's had some issues that got sorted out. Also some engine codes are less troublesome than others. I did some research (an hour on google) last week on the BKD 2.0TDi engine, a fairly common version with 140bhp. That one had early problems with the head, and there are three different revisions of the head, ie A, B and C. The rev C head is fitted in 2008 (I believe 2007 onwards) and doesn't have the cracking problem of A or B. The later BKD engines don't really have any known problems (other than dual mass flywheel, which everything has) ... it doesn't have the oil pump drive chain problem, for example.

Mid 08 cars from the UK with 2.0tdi where common rail whereas the common rails never made it here til 09 and only then with pesky DPFs which came in from 09 on everywhere. If you can get a 2008 UK common rail with 140bhp and no DPF you are laughing.
The only thing that goes wrong with these are flywheels but you can test the health via listening for a knocking noise when idleing and smooth engagement of gears.
