The same price as a head gasket for a red car.:p

Un-answerable question without knowing the make, model and year of the car and without knowing if its front or rear pads.

Pads themselves usually 30-40 (for 2 wheels) depending on brand.
Then add labour, minimum labour usually an hour at 50e (even if it only takes 30 mins to do the job).

Shop around, maybe you can get it cheaper by ringing a few local places.

Fit them yourself. It's very easy.

I fitted new front discs and pads a few weeks ago and the only pitfall I had was one stubborn nut which wouldn't loosen. All I had to do then was call a mate with a decent set of vice grips.

The good thing is nowadays there is plenty of youtube videos to help you out.

Yeah but I'd end up as the YouTube video of a mangled corpse after my breakes failed

Ask your mates if someone has done it before and can show you?
If you're in Galway I can supervise for a pint :D

I'll be in Galway at the end of the month for a wedding but I'll be sauced most of the time so you could probably get a pint out of me without doing any supervision.

Just wanted to get a rough guide for how much it would cost.
I'll go with €80 as top price

For decent quality front pads supplied and fitted you are looking at around €70.

Just had brake pads disks and shoes replaced in a 03 fiesta, and drove it for the first time. Not long maybe 10 mins.

Should there be smoke coming from them and should the wheel rims be warm to touch?

Disks are generally coated with oil when in the box to stop them corroding ect.

If the disks were not given a thorough clean before putting on you can get a bit of burning off them. Should wear off after a while but whoever fitted them should of known better.

no, the calipers must be sticking, the friction is causing the heat
