Customs Query - Buying from US ship to UK

    Hello,

I am just looking into buying clothing in the US and having it shipped to the UK and onto me via parcel motel. My query regards the customs and vat I may have to pay. I am wondering if anyone knows the rate of customs duty for clothing and if there is a certain amount you are allowed customs free. From my own research I found you are allowed £130 of purchases free of customs you only need to pay vat. Does anyone know if this is correct? And also, how would you pay the vat if it was coming through parcel motel?

    Thanks for the help :)

Oh and this is where I found my info:

ParcelMotel will reject the parcel if there are charges to be paid.
You read ParcelMotel's t&c's and you still posted this query

    OP

    1 - What clothing is it ?
2 - Give us the total amount including (price of an item/shipping/insurance)

I'll calculate taxes due for you if coming to UK

    Another thing

    From my personal experience

Fedex is only one company I know of that will bill you for the taxes later .

UPS/DHL - Taxes are collected when goods are delivered .

Anpost - Not sure about that one so I won't comment (never had to pay any taxes/admin/handling fees with them )
