Did a check on a UK registered Ford S-Max that I am interested in on 'mycarcheck.co.uk'.
There are 8 mileage records recorded approximately 2/3 months and 3k miles apart starting at 17k miles in Jan 2012 and ending 3 months ago at 40k miles. The car was first registered in April 2011 and the mileage now is 44k.

Anyone know of a reason for all these mileage records? I can't help but fear car might had had some problem and been back in the garage alot????

Anyone any connections with Ford in the UK that could check out the history of a UK car?

Maybe its from a fuel card system that requires mileage to be entered at the petrol stations point of sale ?

    From here:
AutoCheck gets mileage data from three main sources: the DVLA , The British Vehicle Rental And Leasing Association (BVRLA) and The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI)

    Was it a rental?

Don't know for sure. I was just told it had one owner.

Wouldn't rule out a rental as it would be registered to the company and hence one owner.

I was looking at a 2013 Audi the other day with less than 100km (One hundred) on the clock but two owners. It was a pre-reg car that was sold again in the trade. Number of owners is pretty meaningless to be honest.

It is and it isnt. A car with a high number of owners for its age would immediately have me wondering if there wasnt an issue with it that its previous owners wanted rid of in a hurry. It might all be completely innocent, but it would have me asking questions.

Turns out car is an ex-rental owned by Hertz. Would that put you off or do you think that it might have possibly been maintained to a higher standard than if owned privately, as some people suggest????

It will be properly maintained and properly abused at the same time. Tread carefully

My 08 zafira is ex hertz, brought with 58000k on it, had it 3 yrs now,no problem with it, €4500 cheaper then my main dealer same 08reg, but with more mileage, px offer was bad , so brought ex hertz from trader from Dublin , the saving was worth it.

Ex-hire cars are hit or miss. I've bought one before but it has only been 6 months old and it was fine. The car you are looking at is 2 years old which is along time to be rented out imo. I'd be less likely to be keen on a car the longer it was a rental as it is more open to abuse.

OP, I presume you are going to get someone like the AA or RAC to do a comprehensive mechanical check on the car also? They will tell you if the car is worth buying or not.
