Combining SD drives ?

    Folks,
I have a 120 Gb SD drive as my boot drive and it's nearly full!

Can I add a second 120Gb SD drive and create a virtual 240 Gb boot drive?

Sort of partitioning but in reverse...

    Thanks

    Ray

Yes it's called a spanned drive. Biggest problem though is if one drive fails, your data is lost.

EDIT: Not sure if you can do it with existing data on one drive. Why not just have a second separate drive?

    Hi Paul,
I need to increase the size of the Boot drive (C drive), the SD works really fast as a Boot.
So I thought adding a seperate drive with a different drive letter would not solve the Boot drive capacity issue... or am I wrong?

    Thanks,
    Ray

Adding another drive will just give you another 120GB of space, if you wanted a 240GB drive, you'd need to create a RAID 0 array with your 2 SSD's, however this means wiping all the data on both drives, unless you can do it through software RAID, which I dont think you can.

I think your best bet is to get an external HDD, make an image of your OS, then create a RAID array and then restore the image back on to your new array

    Thanks,
It might be just as easy to purchase a 240Gb SD and swap the OS over. I can reuse the 120Gb in another PC...

I'm not too comfortable with RAID.

    Cheers

Thats the other option too, a lot easier than setting up RAID and all that goes along with it !

Generally the 830 or 840 Pro (make sure its the Pro Model of the 840), the Crucial M4 and the Intel 335's are the most recommended at the moment.
