Most of those travel companies arranging work placements are a big scam. You end up working self-employed as a PR on the most lowly of wages. Ive met hundreds of people doing it. There is another company called Play away, or something like that doing it too.

You could arrange this yourself and pay a lot less and not have to endure the most disgusting and scabby cockroach infested apartments in areas where burglary is common place. Do NOT take any expensive electrical items such as laptops or mobile phones, because I can almost guarantee they will be stolen from you within days.

I've booked with a company called sun kiss travel, few people near me have booked with them before and apparently they were really good ^^

im not saying anything, but perhaps you should have mentioned in the post abit more of your plan, its abit miss leading to say "summer work in magaluf, want to come?" and then later mention that you dont actually have a job, but will be searching for one when youre there.

Just looked through the site there, it seems to me that you are paying the bones of 700 quid to go to Magaluf for three months with no guarantee of work.

However you will get the advice of someone who knows how to ask for a job in a bar, buy a mobile phone, open a bank account, ( endless list ) all things you are probably quite capable of doing yourself.

To be honest, it looks like you are going to be planted in some hovel and left to your own devices as to how to attain an income ! And you are paying for this. The whole thing looks like a big old rip off to me.

You could do this for a lot less without the company involved. All you need is a flight. Hostels and pensions are everywhere in these resorts and fairly cheap. Set out bar to bar, restaurant to restaurant and look for work. I've done it, although it was the 90's, Id say the same rules still apply today.

That company seems like a big ole scam.

Just to add, and possibly rain on your parade a little ( sorry ), you end up working 7 days a week, mostly nights, and never see the sun or have a bit of time to do your own thing. Pay is not great, only plus is you never have any time to spend it so you might manage to save a little. Not all its cracked up to be.

exact;y what i was thinking tempura, i mean why not just go yourself? your big kids now, no need for a childminder (who rips you off)

If youre paying 700 for 3 months, youre being ripped off. You will be sharing an apartment with a lot of people, several in each room. Add all that together and you are paying way over the odds.

You will not be given a job, just told to go and ask all the bars for PR work. The bars are always looking for PR staff, all you have to do is go and find a PR and ask them to take them to the boss and they will hire you. That basically means they will tell you what drink offers they have and you will have to try and capture tourists and convince them to go to the bar with you. Typically your money will be somewhere from 50cents to 2EUR for each person. Not many places will pay 2EUR though, and if they do, the tourists will need to spend on a particular offer for you.

Like I said already, I know hundreds of people who have used these companies and they were all pissed off when they realised the dire conditions they had to live in. Ive only been in Ireland for 2 years, I was living in Tenerife for 4 years prior to this and in Ibiza for a whole season.

In Ibiza I got 2EUR for each person and I made around 120-150EUR per night. I was the exception though, and I worked my ass off the entire time and didnt get wasted and sit chatting until I was finished at 3pm and then went out clubbing. 99% of the workers sit around moaning about how hard it is and negging each other out.

I didnt do PR work in Tenerife as I was managing a timeshare team, but I did train some people in some bars how to PR because the owners became friends of mine and were struggling to fill up the place.

Id advise you to try and arrange this yourselves through this forum, arrange to meet up for some drinks and see if you get on, then get a place rented together. Much cheaper and better.

REMINDER : Do NOT NOT NOT take laptops because you WILL be parted with them. A huge number of locals and also PRs whop are starving and dont have cash to get home, end up taking loads of drugs and require income to fund it. Your nice new laptop will fetch a few quid for their next hit. Ive seen it happen on a weekly basis.

After reading this I'm going to try and get onto sunkiss about a refund, I have got no email from them either regarding this, kind of suspicious just hope I don't end up getting scammed :/

    EDIT:

Talking to them on FB now I'll let you know the updates
