Bulgaria as a holiday destination?

    Hi all,

Planning on a weeks holidays in July with some friends. They've been talking about Bulgaria and seem very anxious for it as they can get one week for around 500 euro.

I'm not too sure though... What would Sunny Beach be like as a holiday destination?

We're all in our late twenties/early thirties, they'd be about 6 of us going.

We'd like the odd night out, pubs nearby etc.. I'm not looking to go to a rowdy spot either though. I like my luxuries!

Would love to hear from anyone who's been to Sunny Beach / Bulgaria?

What are prices like, shopping, food etc..?

    Thanks :)

Sunny beach in my (limited) experience is pretty standard package holiday similar to what you would get in santa ponza, magaluf or kusadasi. So if you are into resorts with bars and restaurants all geared to the Irish/English tastes, hearing the casper slide ad nauseum, and karaoke then you'll love it. We stayed in Albena which was much quieter. We visited sunny beach twice and were'nt overly impressed. But that was 8 years ago so it could be different now. But if you are interested in travelling out of the resort bulgaria is very nice and has some gorgeous beaches and countryside out of the resorts.

For €500 you could go literally LOADS of places so not sure why you're mates are sold on bulgaria just based on price. Personally if a resort as I described is ok for you then why not just go to Spain? 2 hours less travelling for a start.
