I'm looking for ideas on how to make a bare stairwell look good. The stair is enclosed on 3 sides with a high wall which faces you as you walk down. It would be nice to get something on this wall. Has anyone got any ideas or something they have seen before?

Some square wooden framed mirrors (2 euro each) in Ikea and hang them on the wall at head height so that they fall/slope with the fall/slope of the staitcase.

They can be painted or stained any colour you like...to match the house wall colour and decor.

Malma is the name of them.....bought 6 of them in natural pine finish (still in their plastic wrapping) and I will paint or stain them at some stage this week.

Got them for 1 euro each...2 weeks ago in Ikea.:)

    Hiya,
You could look at wallpapering the wall with a subtle design paper in keeping with the existing colour scheme and/or putting up a shallow shelf unit. I am not over keen on mirrors but if the area is quite dark it may reflect some natural light into the stairwell.
A long tapestry might also work or a large painting. You could get a large movie print ( or anything really, its all what works with the design scheme of the house) and have to framed to hang in stairwell. Have look on allposters.ie for some inspiration.
If you search stair decoration on Houzz.com it will give you some more ideas.

I have a very fine rug... too good to walk on! It is attached to a pole via clip on fixtures that are theaded onto the pole. I painted the wooden pole gold and put pair of cup hooks on ends to hang on wall. So rug is not damaged and can resume life as a floor run when safe to do so :)
