For any A380 lovers out there check the video link below...

QF/EF frequent flyers now can share benefits and lounges and the Kangaroo route flown by many Irish on their way down under on QF1 London-Sydney is moving from its traditional Hong Kong stopover to the massive Dubai Emirates hub.

Does this also mean the old Qantas British Airways love affair is dead?

The partnership in my view signals a slight admission of defeat by Qantas who have seriously cut back on their European routes while Emirates grows every year. Though it is good news for Irish people heading down under that can now fly direct Dublin to Dubai and then onto Sydney. But not great for Qantas who are now down to just London with the withdrawal of Frankfurt coming soon.

Here's hoping Air Korea one day fly direct to Dublin. Excellent prices and 34" leg room!

    QF1 is via Singapore :).
I am a FF with Qantas and got some emails on this awhile back.
    Changes to our Asian network

Qantas is making changes to its Asian network from Australia that will generally deliver better timings, particularly to Singapore and Hong Kong, and allow for better connections into Asia. From 31 March 2013, some Qantas flights from Australia to Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok will be re-timed to arrive earlier allowing you to make more 'same day' connections across Asia.

Frequency will be adjusted on some routes, with new services provided to Singapore and some reductions on other routes. Flights under this new schedule will go on sale today and are subject to regulatory approvals.

    Changes to Qantas codeshare flights

On sale now for travel from 31 March 2013, subject to government and regulatory approvals, we will be partnering with Emirates on a number of flights to the UK, Europe, Asia and North Africa. With this new partnership with Emirates, Qantas will be removing its codeshare from 31 March 2013 on some services currently operated by Cathay Pacific, British Airways, Air France, Iberia and Kenya Airways. Members will be able to travel to destinations throughout Europe, The Middle East and North Africa on Emirates services via Dubai.

    Qantas flights to Frankfurt
In October 2012 we announced that we were removing Qantas services to Frankfurt. Effective 15 April 2013, flights to Frankfurt from Australia and Singapore will be via Dubai. This means you will be able to choose from 98 flights per week from Australia direct to Dubai and connect on Emirates from Dubai to Frankfurt. For travel from Singapore to Frankfurt, members will be able to travel on Emirates via Dubai. Qantas operated services via Dubai and Qantas codeshare services operated by Emirates are subject to government and regulatory approvals.

Originally there was mention of the LHR to SIN BA codeshare to remain so that customers wanting to go via Singapore could still do so but that seems completely gone now.

Above link has a lot of information about what flights are being stopped and which are being renamed.

It's a strange one, hard to see how qantas will benefit from this. Is it just a case of if you can't beat them then join them

I have the same confusion for the aer Lingus etihad tie up. If anything aer Lingus lose traffic at least with the ba tie up they used to get a decent amount of people using their dub/cork/Shannon to London routes.

Not sure how these codeshare agreements actually work and what the profit sharing is like but I would think the following:

Qantas reckon they will sell more then current codeshares.
Qantas will have reduced operating costs on the European side.

Whether or not this comes through or not is another thing.

Dont know enough about the ethiad tie up but I would expect any lost volume on thei domestic flights they would earn back and then some in the longer journeys booked. (Assuming you can book straight through on aer lingus site?)

    edit*

Had a go on the Aer Lingus site.

I think it is more impressive that you can have EY flights all the way from SYD to KIR!

Is all this changing just the alliances keeping more for themselves? I mean SQ and LH will want to consolidate the market the have from SIN to FRA and onwards from both. Likewise EK will want to keep their passengers going through DXB and QF are just trying not to go out of business given all the competition they now have into and out of Australia. It is easy to forget that FRA, SIN, LHR and DXB are great onward hubs with various airlines serving all of them. Australia is final destination for probably 95% of pax.

EDIT: Just see Qantas announced a codeshare with China Eastern, now that AF/KLM are using Chinese hubs more and more it could be a good move for QF.

Michael Healy Rae is getting a new multi-billion euro A380 terminal constructed in Farranfore and Danny Healy Rae has secured Drink Driving Permits for all the sheiks and shakers which will soon be touching down. :D
