Any thoughts on these? Would be a 2008 LCI model with m sport and some nice extras.

    Have a 2007 mark V golf 1.4L 80bhp

Anything to look out for, thoughts on how mpg would compare between the two cars?

    It's a 218bhp 3L petrol - any know problems?

Reason I'm going petrol is my mileage is < 10,000 pa.

I know the answer to this question but I'm just curious as to whether you've factored it into the equation....

Do you know how much the annual tax will cost you on that car?

    ~750 euro?

Yes that's it. I'm fine with that.

Dunno if the 525/530 LCIs are affected, but the 523 are having injector and coil pack problems. One 2008 I test drove had various numbers of them replaced 9 times. I got a 2005 530i in the end :)

You'll probably need to import one, not a lot available here...

OK, I misread the post and though you were looking at a 2007 523i in which case the tax would be €1,494. I see now it's your current car which is 2007.

That rate of €1,494 would apply to any 523i 3.0L up to end of June 2008.

    Isn't the 2008 525i a 3 litre straight 6 with roughly €1200 pa tax?

Hey, if its any help, I average 30mpg from the older model (2006, 2.5L). That's evenly mixed city, country, motorway miles. Other than tax, I don't find it too expensive to run.

Open to corrections but yes straight 6 3L but under emissions it's €750.

Assume if i import a 2008 one, even if first registered Jan-June it would be under the post july 2008 emissions based system and hence the €750?

Oh yes will do, most e60's over here are poverty spec and i want certain extras at a minimum such as leather heated seats, pro sat nav and 19" spyders. If it comes with run-flats ill be removing them.

Of course, forgot about the emissions. I doubt if there is too many petrols around post 2007. Yes if you import a Jan-June one it will be emissions based tax.

Cool car if well specced in msport. Leather, auto, pro sat nav and xenons would be on the wish list. Heated seats not so much but nice to have as well as uprated speakers. Be interesting to see how much the VRT would be though?

MPG won't be hugely less than the horrible 1.4 engine in the Golf but it will be hugely more rewarding in every respect.

yep looking for all of those, VRT is about €4k.

    Any more thoughts?

Buy a pre-LCI (facelift) model - the N52 engine is a LOT more reliable than the N53 direct injection engine. Those engines are noted for their problems with injectors and coil packs. The N52 is not perfect, but it is a much safer bet. Plus, the N52 is a 2.5 whereas the N53 is a 3.0, yet the N53 model doesn't produce a single extra horsepower.

Nice to see there's people out there still buying the occasional 'big engined' motor. :)

op id go for the 530 if getting the emissions based one, im looking at these engines for my next coupe and the 530 has extra 40bhp for only extra E90 or so in tax for the year i think, in for the penny and all that...

Op have you owned a bmw before and what car are you currently driving?

I am very informed on E92 and early E60 prices. For the car you have described, Id imagine your looking at 2.5-3k per year depreciation...
