Octavia 1.4 engine

    The OH looking for a 1.4 engine car and the Octavia has been short listed, has anyone any experience with this motor?

    The engine in these are they the same used in the 1.4 Golf which is notorious for consuming oil?

    Power and speed isn't as important as reliability in this case.

    What about an Opel Astra 1.4 instead.

    Forgot to mention the year 05/06 model....The shortlist was Astra, Focus, Mazda3, Octavia

    Been looking past few days and havent really seen any decent focus or astra tbh all fairly high miles, did look at a mazda3 but needed fair bit work doing to it and now seen Octavia for sale , looks good and clean, lowish milage etc so just want a heads up on what these yolks are like

    Out of that list a Mazda 3 would be my choice hands down.

    Never owned one myself but from but looking into them they seem like a decent motor, the Touring model looks nice and the chain driven engine seems reliable as long as its been looked after right.

    Better built and more reliable than the other options you have listed imo.
