Hi have a focus and it keeps wanting to stall in 1st gear so I'm wondering what could be wrong with it. Doesn't pick up speed well either. Any ideas? Bought it Friday and strangely enough when I brought it for a test drive it was fine. It has apparently been outside the sellers house for months so battery needed to be jumped but this other problem only surfaced on the way home. My husband reckons it's an air flow problem but not 100% sure.

Thank you. Any idea how that problem of dirty fuel gets resolved, does it have to be taken out? Sorry I'm not great with my knowledge of cars.

I'd be inclined to replace the filter and fill up, but I'm used to much older cars that aren't as fussy as those with injectors etc. so don't take my advice. :D

Bring to a good independent garage for them to have a look. It could just need a service, checking basic stuff like spark plugs and oil.

coil pack , new plugs and leads wont cost much at all DIY job(assuming it's a zetec petrol engine, it's a common fault)

Would it be down a cylinder or two if that was the case??? Does the car sound normal or does it sound really rough?? if it ticks over perfect and it doesnt sound lumpy or rough when you punch the accelerator I would be inclined to rule that out.
