1,000,001 time this has been asked.

Looking to get back into cycling as part of the BTW but budget can go a few hundred over the 1,000 for the right bike.

Bike will not be used for commuting or ever be in the city of Dublin and more a weekend/evening bike to go for a cycle.

Fitness is a I am part of a running club so fitness level is decent.

I am sure like runners there is no 1 brand which is the best but there is a bike to suit everyone.

Can someone point me in the right direction on bikes and models to have a start for as sometimes bike x model y is only a entry model but if you go for bike x and model z is a much better model.

I plan to try a few out but trying to narrow my search down as a lot of the names I have never heard of

A lot of bang for your buck with these I'm getting one myself. It's all online though and not sure how that'll work with your BTW scheme.

Cube are also getting a lot of good reviews.

    as are rose

Then there are the more common models Trek,Specialized,Giant etc etc all equally good bikes.

Good luck there's a differing opinion on every variation of component and set up so best go with something you like and that feels comfortable.

How much am I looking at for a carbon bike and what gearset should I try and get

if your limit is a 1000 euro id stick with getting an aluminium bike with a carbon fork, you will get something with shimano 105 groupset for that kind of money, full carbon bikes generally start at around 1400

I suppose if you're looking in and around the 2k mark for a good carbon frame they can be got from around €1400 up but I would rather be on a good allumium frame than a cheap carbon one.

If you check out the weight of some of the cheaper carbon frames they can be weigh more than high end allu frames.

As for group set for your original budget you should get Shimano 105 possibly Ultegra if a little more is thrown in the pot. After that you'll get Dura ace but your talking big money then. Sora and Tiagra would be the entry range but think there has been a vast improvements in entry level spec'd bikes.

There's also SRAM but I don't now much about that to be honest.

I've only recently started into all this myself so I'm half answering your questions with info I picked up along the way.

You can get a carbon bike with a SRAM rivel groupset from Planetx for €1184, it's a really good bike for the price spec wise.

    Thanks for replies.

I'd go to around 1500 if it is the right bike.

Ribble are a well respected brand with good CS and build quality.

The R872 gets plenty of good reviews, it's the same model as the "Stealth" they just changed the name.

You can get the same spec as I posted with Fulcrum 7's instead of the airline's for €1521, which is a bit of a bargain.

Sounds like it might be a harsh ride. Just checkin out a couple of youtube clips. Any ideas on weight without pedals for that set up you quoted?

Not a clue, it's not an especially light frame, but it is just under the magic 1kg mark.

    Here's a review from a buyer online.
