Bought an 01 1.8 petrol 406 . I love the car but ut was lying up
for a couple of months before I got it and theproblems
are coming thick and fast .
Drove it on the motorway yesterday and thought it felt funny .
When I got off onto a quiet road I realised the exhaust was growling
like a summer yeast infection .
I got a lend of ramps and some putty stuff I was told would work if its
a small hole . Will this work and will it pass the nct ?

The steering shudders when I lock it full too . But Im sure
    this is unrelated .
    Any help greatly apreciated .

Some exhaust issues can be temporarily sorted with putty, metal strap is better on pipe and bandage along with putty better on box section imo. Need to see the damage first, could well need replacing.

Re steering on full lock, check power steering fluid level and belt tension, probably ok anyway.

The long bit of stainless steel pipe is broken in half right at the joint . Is it just a matter of getting a new piece from breakers and popping it in?
Anyone know what this section us called ? How much itll cost second hand ?

I don't think these cars has a stainless system.... Otherwise it wouldn't have broke ;)

    Tailbox, mid section or downpipe?

I could only get a pic for half of a D8 system, D9 mid section joins further back

picture. Does that disconnect from the box or do i need to buy the
whole piece . Im on a serious budget here .

When I was pricing exhausts for my one a full straight system was about £130. Standard I don't know but I wouldn't get a 2nd hand one

Ouch may have to go the breakers and chance one thats
been lying up . ( which cause the original one to break ) .

Waste of money. More than likely half rotten and will break been there, done that.

Buy new and save the hassle in the not too distant future

took it apart yesterday . Its a cenimetre of pipe I need. Just the bellowed bit that sits into the muffler part of the exhaust . Is there not a short piece of pipe you can buy with a bellowed piece on one end and a socket on the other .
Its annoying having to buy the whole piece. I tried to bellow the pipe out myself but getting it spot on isnt easy.
