Windows 8 Bootloader

    Hi, in a moment of zero thinking ahead I reformatted a partition on one of my drives that I thought only contained an old Windows 7 installation that I don't need. Instead it turns out I needed this partition to boot into my current Windows 8 installation (Which is on another drive). I can't remember if I made a rescue disc and if I did I can't find it. I do have a Windows 8 disc for another PC but it's 32bit and when I try to repair it just stays at the "Attempting Repair" screen. I do have the 64 bit product key.

    Does anyone have any ideas that would save me reinstalling Win7 and upgrading to 8 again please?

    if you just deleted the partition then testdisk or maybe gpart (rtfm) on http://partedmagic.com/doku.php?id=downloads may undelete it


    in the old day's I'd have said do a second install of windows to a different directory and keep going until the PC reboots, then interupt the setup and modify the boot.ini to point at the old version and remove the directory you no longer need.

    never bothered to check if you can still do the same with never versions

    Thanks, Testdisk did detect it but couldn't recover it. Gpart just didn't want to know. I just bit the bullet and reinstalled. Win7 was faster to install than I remember and luckily I had everything backed up on another drive.
