decided to make a dummy from rabbit for my hawk as price of these dummys with rabbit fur fetch about $50 so fcuk that make my own
looked up treating the fur and important parts of fur to keep intact
STEP 1.first get a rabbit ad try not to damage fur so shot this lad in the jaw and had to run after him
    STEP 2.skin him proper.
i push gutted this lad and the hole his guts burst from i used to start skinnin him so slit up to rib cage and pushed my hands under fur and moved it round its back moving up and down its back from its shoulders to tail
STEP 3. cut round ankles and snap feet off and push legs towards body and pul through its skin ( like slippin a sock off) and same with back legs
fur is loose now so cut at neck as close as i could to its skull and twisted head off and basically just pulled for off pullin it towards its tail.
STEP 4. as a lure for a hawk the tail is very important as when rabbit runs its stands out so tryin to keep tail was tricky but i just cut a v shape gash at tail bone and it pealled off the bone but still little bit of bone in it.
STEP 5. i then spread the skin out and scraped any left over skit and meat vains etc off as good as i could and then salted it rubbing the salt anywhere skin was includin the tail bone
STEP 6. i then nailed skin to wooden fence in 5 places each front leg and back leg and its tail with skin side facing the sky
now i was told 5 days is enough but i actually forgot bout it so 6 weeks was hangin in rain sun and snow and a few attacks from magpies
    this is result

    skin side

skin side is hard so was told cookin oil rubbed on it softens it and it did.

for the cylindrical part i am using a paint roller and skin is going to be wrapped around it with cable ties and because skin is hardened it can take the pressure and wont tear

any tips welcome to improve it?

step 1: engage your brain and don't be writing posts about shooting rabbits in the jaw.
step 2: use this forum to seek cured rabbit skins or advise on where to get them.
    step 3: cop on.

In all fairness I doubt he intended to shoot the rabbit in the jaw.

i would have said that this was pretty damming, trying not to damage the fur so i shot it in the jaw? you'd have to be some cabbage to write that. would you shoot a deer in the arse so as not to damage the cape?

I was aiming for his head and he took it in the jaw. Shot was taken freehand
Should've used me full stops and made it bit clearer that I wasn't purposely aiming for his jaw

Well to be fair if you look at the rabbits skin it doesnt have a head.

he obviously did not need it.

He was more then likely going for a clean kill
and messed the shot.. Sure I wouldn't have admitted it but I have in the past and will do in the future make a mess of certain shots. .. Even lads on here shooting deer have admitted to "dispatching" .. Least he had the guts to admit he ****ed up. I've taken care of a few messed shots either by follow up or other means.. Sometimes a follow up isn't available. or ethical ..

no where did i say the op intended shooting the animal in the jaw, nor do i for one minute think that any shooter is above making an imperfect shot.

my problem is the 'bravado tone' in which it's written. there is enough people using these sites to fuel the anti fire the least we should do is try limit their argument.

    Fair enough..

Shooting a deer in the hole does drop em mind :)

Think there's about 3 different threads on here now about anti's.some of them have quotes from anti sites were they have used comments from the hunting forums they have also used photos, wasn't the cleverest thing to post on a public forum.
It is only a dummy , it doesn't matter where the shot is placed once it kills.
To be honest I think the op is trolling or on a wind up , nobody could start that many threads about shooting rabbits jaws off, rabbits escaping back down holes after being shot, letting hawkes take pheasant out of season and training his hawk to take hares.
What happens in the field should stay in the field
