Delivery

Thinking of getting a Macbook, and I can get a 12% discount through campus.ie because I'm a uni student.

When I place the order on the website, and I get to the point of delivery, it mentions that Delivery is Mon-Fri 9am-5pm only.
The problem is that I'm on college work placement and I will be out of the house between those hours every day - there will be no-one else in the house either.

I haven't put through the order [yet], but I'm wondering is there any flexibility in this? If I bought the Macbook in a place like CompuB, would they honour the same discount?

    I'm based in Dublin.
    Thanks

Just like any delivery, it's during office hours.

If there is no one home, they will leave a card to say they couldn't deliver. It will have the option for you to go and collect it from their delivery hub. Not sure why their delivery agent is.

Not sure about CompuB, but no harm in contacting them and asking.

I think Compub offer 6%, with some free software I think, but its not as good. Usually UPC/Fedex are good about this, if they cant deliver, you can contact them to set it up to collect or perhaps deliver out of hours for a charge

    Get it delivered to work?

    Thanks for the replies.

I checked with CompuB, the discount is 6% (so that works out at a difference of about €70 for me - I'll have to think about whether it is worth the extra money to get it sooner and not have to worry about collecting it at a delivery hub, etc.)

I didn't think of getting it delivered to work. It's a fairly big office, I'm not sure if it's frowned upon to get personal packages delievered!

Dumb question, but if I only have a Visa Debit card (and not a credit card), am I even able to purchase something from CompuB or the likes? Given that the cost of a Macbook may be well over €1000, don't Visa Debits have some daily withdrawal limit?

Well last few times I've made a big purchase in a compub, they've had no problem using my VDC.

Sometimes your bank will block the order. But you can ring up and ask them to approve it. Just do it through office hours.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

I ended up ordering online from the Apple website as the CompuB stores in Dublin didn't have what I wanted in stock (but they are helpful on the phone!).

Used my Visa Debit Card and the order went through fine (it says Order Processing and the money came out of my online banking, so I'm assuming fine).

I chose express delivery and it says should be delivered Thursday 4th April. It's to my home address though so I'll have to deal with the problem of not being there closer to the time.

Will I get a text from UPS/etc. with what time it'll arrive?

They usually ring me before they arrive. And say they're outside. Another idea would be to ask them to leave it with a trusted neighbour if thats possible. They can do that. But maybe it's easiest to just collect from their depot.

    Thanks for that.

I hope the depot is open outside of 9-5, it'd be great if I could get the Mac before the weekend! In hindsight there was probably no need for express delivery, it gave an estimated delivery of 1 day before the standard (free) delivery, but I imagine in reality there's no difference in how they get it to me.

I thought express delivery was the standard delivery Apple offers via UPS/TNT. Any orders I've made have been listed as 'Express' and I didn't pay for them.

    PM sent. :P

I think Apple say they don't deliver to PO boxes so that probably includes Parcel Motels!

I ordered it on Monday and got a call from TNT today to say he was near my house. I wasn't there so asked could he deliver it to my work (around the corner). He said it'd be no problem if it was up to him but Apple policy is you can only deliver it to the shipping address (e.g. can't leave it with a trusting neighbour).

I changed the shipping address to my work address with Apple and she said on the phone it should be delivered tomorrow. I'll keep ye posted!

Parcel motel is not a PO box and can accept a package from anyone, including signed for delivery and customs charges. I've used it before and it's really handy, it'll text when it's in the locker and you have 24hrs to pick it up or else you're charged a bit more

Thanks for all the help, got it delivered yesterday. It's my first Mac and I love it!
