VU+ Solo, HD recording problem...

I'm using a VU+ Solo with an external HDD.
I can record, pause and rewind in SD no problem.
When I try to pause or rewind in HD the screen goes blank...apart from the OSD.
My HDD is probably about 7 years old and I'm wondering could that be the prob...too slow maybe??? It does have it's own power supply...
Would a SSD make any difference?

HD recordings are HUGE, an hour would be ~5 gig whereas a SD recording would be ~1 gig, I just compared a recording from RTÉ 1 and RTÉ 2 HD there, when you are pausing or moving position on a file that size I'd imagine that the box just isn't able to cope with it because of the slow performance over USB and the processor speed in your box, I don't think a SSD would make a difference, ideally if you could install the hard drive into the box it might improve things, I don't think that's possible in a Solo though.

Try the drive in a computer and see if you can pause/rewind on the HD files, also, try recording for a minute or so and see if you can pause the smaller recordings. You could also try another media player to see if that makes any difference

I too have a solo but record accross network to hard drive in Duo.
    Can record HD no bother.

I updated to latest Vix at weekend and changed my USB Key to a 16gb for EPG and Swap.
I also set it for timeshift (which is basically recording) and it works a treat.
I even recorded RTE2 HD and RTE 1 to it at same time and no issue.

First thing Id do fresh install of image. The solo is a low power machine TBH and would benefit from fresh install. Ive noticed huge improvement in performance since.

Then Re-initalise the drive and see how it goes.

The Solo is like an old PC and needs a refresh every now and again to get the best out of it....

I done a software update through the menu, then re=initialised the HD and low and behold it worked!!!
Are the software update and image install different things??

Either way thanks for the advice, you got me going.
