Just booked flights to Barcelona with the girlfriend for June. Looking for somewhere to stay that isn't too expensive and not too far out from the city. Hotel or apartment preferable.

Would love recommendation if anybody has been somewhere cool! :D

I'm just back from Barcelona one week. Myself and the other half stayed in the Universal Hotel which is a 4 star. I don't know what your budget is but it averaged out to about 97 euros per room per night. The location is perfect. 10 minute walk to the beaches at Barcelonetta and 10 minutes to La Rambla. Also the metro is literaly outside the front door of the hotel as well as supermarkets and some bars. The staff were friendly, attentive but very unobtrusive. The rooms were modern of good size and spotless. If you need to know any more feel free to PM.

We used www.gobcn.com last year. Got a lovely 2 bed apartment for 110 a night..minutes from las ramblas and in a nice quiet area.

The Banys Oriental is a great hotel from what I've heard (I've never stayed but friends have). Its in a great location, very central and lots of life, and not bad value at €105 per night. The downside is you cant book online, you have to do an online request and go from there.
