Radio 1 do this every year and it is fantastic that they are promoting young talent and recognise uni graduates as the future of radio. Irish stations do no such thing. 2FM should really sponsor the Smedias but they probably don't even look at the winner of "Best DJ".

Hattie Pearson, who won Best Female at last year's SRAs in the UK and who did 4-7am on Friday on Radio 1, has already landed a gig doing the early weekend breakfast show on XFM which is a brilliant achievement. I couldn't see that happening in the safe radio world of Ireland.

See 2FM are too afraid that the winner of the "Best DJ" award wouldn't be able to time-check and call out the text number properly. ;)

That's a fairly big endorsement for Sunderland, too. I was considering the MA Radio Management +Production there and was in two minds about it...but I think my mind has been made up for me

Did anyone listen to Ethan yesterday morning? I listened to the first 45 minutes on iPlayer and he sounded really good if a little bit nervous which is obviously understandable. He was trying to be interesting and show that he has a good personality and I thought he came across very well for a first show.

Listened in last week, I think his first show was actually the previous monday, he did Monday to thursday and then hattie did Friday morning and he was back in again yesterday morning. Both were very good considering they were broadcasting on bbc for the first time. I thought he was more natural and unfazed than her but they were still both very good. The bbc radio 1 format isnt rigidly tight in terms of quick links, they encourage discussion and presenter personality which can be a double edged sword because you can talk too much and annoy the listener if too mouthy. Both did very well.

Pete Allison did Monday to Thursday last week, it was Hattie on Friday and Ethan yesterday. The latter two only got one show each as part of their prize.

    I stand corrected.
