    Mine are:

    1) I have to like it (with the subrules a) no matter how many people say it's a must have, I no like, I no buy and b) no matter how many people say it's ridiculous, bad, etc ..if I want it I get it)

    2) mechanical watches only

    3) no watch to be more expensive than 300 Euro; preferably less or a lot less

    4) don't buy any old tat just because it's cheap and shiny

    5) try not to double up on styles (that one is somewhat flexible)

    6) no watches that I won't (dare) to wear

I have no rules, just a couple of guidelines that I can break as and when I see fit (where as rules are made to be strictly adhered to)

It used to be buy anything I like that I can afford, but now I have quantity I just want something different to what I already have. The difference can be in complication (I still have no GMT or Alarm), something that looks sufficiently different to what I already have or even just a movement. I also include movement decoration in this.

Also I prefer mechanical, it goes without saying that I need to be able to afford it without it putting me in any financial difficulty.

That's pretty much it for me.

I'd say the only firm rule for me is no smaller than 42mm. I've tried smaller watches, and they're just not for me.

I'm less likely to buy quartz these days, but I don't think I'd rule them out. I don't really mind doubling up styles.

I don't have a firm rule on budget. They've tended to be around 400 euro or so, but I reckon I'll end up spending a lot more at some stage - but just for one watch.

I'm not ruling out quartz because of snobbism or a distinct dislike ...but if I allowed myself to buy quartz as well I'd need an extra house to store all the watches :D

    I used to just buy...

now I have specific goals in mind. I always wanted a Omega, IWC and Panerai and a digital...maybe a Breitling Aerospace as its digital and analogue

I have My PO, I have an IWC and My Suunto Digital

I am looking for a different white dial watch - maybe a Zenith, or Dornbluth or if I can afford it...IWC Portuguese 3714

So...decide what ya like, and buy the best you can within your price range..

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.
