I just bought a fresh boned and rolled stuffed turkey for €7 and half fresh gammon for €6. Fantastic value. They were also selling large bags of Carrots, Parships, Potatoes for 29c. Also, Brocolli and Tomatoes and a punnet of Kiwis for 29c. ..... Happy Days!! :D

Was in aldi in midleton, got a 2.5 kg ham for 8.99 and a turkey fillet for 6.99. Also got my carrots, parsnip and broccoli for 29c each. Great deal.

    Ham would be poor quality

Dunnes have a special on ham too and it's lovely, we've had 3 of them so far and every one of them was mouthwateringly delicious.

    2kg for €8, 3kg for €12 and 4kg for €16.

Aldi has literally changed the way we shop. Great produce, great value. However, I have just been speaking to the OH about this, and we are wondering how they sell so cheap. Should we be concerned that producers are being pushed to the pin of their collar to supply to Aldi?

i've actually found that the quality of fruit and veg in aldi has been going downhill for a while and we've started get the majority of ours from Lidl instead.

In the times we are in, I don't think anyone is too concerned about the producers. I don't hear producers complaining or refusing to supply Aldi or Lidl.

Instead of wondering about the good value products found in Aldi we should really question the high prices applied by the other supermarkets

    no doubt about this

you can buy blueberries in aldi/lidl for a little under 2euro
    usually 3.49 in tesco
    local near me (joyces) 4eu

    no difference in quality
tesco are robbing basterds as are superv with certain things with
    prices that can't be justified

I've heard (local farmer here in France, talking about local Lidls and Aldis) that they buy a lot of their produce locally, thus saving money compared to larger supermarkets with a centralised distribution system. Whether that's true in Ireland, don't know.

Can't remember if he said that the producers are being well-paid or not, unfortunately.

Exactly, I would like to ask why local butchers charge 1euro for a burger when tesco charge 1euro for 10.

    Ohh wait....

I think aldi and lidl are far better to suppliers than the other large supermarkets. Take lidl they use small family firms for water, cooked chicken etc. aldi only sell gleesons coke. The same can't be said for the large supermarkets who use however is cheapest. You don't hear lidl and aldi squeezing Irish suppliers like the other supermarkets. They both family run business with morals
