ridiculous oil use

    We just topped up oil tank by 200euro, two weeks ago and its all gone, we have the heat on an hour in the morning and maybe 2-3 in the evening, the house never gets hot and we are spending so much on heat, is it the burner, would a service help or should it be replaced? Its a four bed, detached home and we are renting but this seems a ridiculous amount to be spending? any suggestions?

    Is the tank locked? Home heating oil is bacoming more and more lucrative for robbers in recent times

    yeah we have a lock on it but there is a filter at the bottom that just unscrews, is there a way to lock that?

    Does it smoke or smell when it's running , ask the owner when it was serviced last ....if it's badly in need of a service it'll use stacks of oil....
    Do you have a back-boiler,this could be robbing a lot of heat from yr oil boiler...
