I would buy an inverter welder. You can get some great deals on done deal if your not looking to spend a huge amount.
Inverter is the best if your going to be moving around a farm as it will work of an extension lead for a short period of time.

Depends on what you want to do. Sounds like small repairs and fabrication is what you have in mind so a medium sized stick welder will do all that and run off a 13amp plug. 100 to 150 euros will get you started with a light unit if you only use it a few times a year. Spend 250 if you intend to use it say every week or so.
Advantage of the stick is they can be run from an extension cable (unwind it all, don't leave any wound up, the current draw will melt the cable if it cant cool)
If you intend to work in a shed and do a lot of work go for a mig welder. Oh and take the time to learn how to weld, it's a skill and takes practice.

Do not use a medium size stick welder with an extension lead this is very dangerous. Big risk of electrical shock as load going through cable is too high

Yeah, he is right on that, if you must, get one of those transformer boxes.
I'v done it myself but never for more than a quick bit of spot weld as a quick repair.
