    Hi,

I have an 04 Mondeo 1.8 LX Petrol. I left the lights on and the battery is dead. When I turn on the ignition, I get nothing, as in no lights on the dash. The little red light on the clock is still on. I was advised that the battery is on it's last legs anyway due to age and the fact that the car is only used for short runs.

Is there anything special I need to do when changing the battery? I am guessing I will lose the radio and have to find a code.

I bought the car a few months back and have no manual, so I know this is a stupid question, but does anyone know where I would get one? I have searched google and most links lead to somewhere that is now dead.

    Any pointers much appreciated.

    B.

Don't change the battery unless it needs its. Get a jump start and keep driving it. If its being used daily and it starts normally when the lights aren't left on, then why change it?

If it's been starting OK the last couple of weeks, it's not that bad, and it stands a good chance of getting you through the summer, though nothing is guaranteed.

All it needs for now is a jump start and a much longer than normal run in daylight (no lights on) to bring it back up to a sensible level, or a period of time with a charger attached to it.

Don't rush to change it unless it's been letting you down, this last couple of weeks would have given any battery a hard time, if it was that close to failing, it would have failed with the way the temperatures have been,

You radio code may have been lost if it's that dead at the moment, you won't know until you get it started again.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Don't bother replacing the battery yet. Get a jump start and take it for a drive for an hour. You can ring any ford dealer to get the radio code. I've done it before and they won't charge you for it. They can look it up on there service computer in a couple of seconds with the reg number of the car.

Thanks folks, we went with a new battery in the end. Time constraints and kids put us under pressure.
