Winder stairs and rise/going options

    Hi all,

Working within a very tight space (hip roof) to get a stairs up to the attic for a conversion. We will have to use a double winder staircase.

We can go with a 13 step or 14 step staircase.

    14 step: rise 195, going 220; pitch 41.6 degrees
    13 step: rise 210, going 234; pitch 41.9 degrees
    Staircase width is 750mm

Would appreciate your views on which of these is safer and if the difference in safety is significant. And also, would the winder box would work for a 750mm step?

The 14 step staircase would be:

    2 std step
    3 kite winder turning left
    1 std step
    3 kite winder turning left
    2 std step
Quarter landing (turn left on to next step)
    2 std steps

The quarter landing goes over the existing landing and so headheight clearance is essential. The earlier steps go over the existing stairs.

Is a 4 kite winder a no no? Two of these would make a big difference in terms of a solution.

And lastly, is there any way to minimise the base on the quarter landing so as to give extra headheight?

Very much appreciate any advice that you can give.

    William
