    Congrats!
I bought in thomas gear and found them the best price for the style of ring I wanted. Valuation for 2.5 times of what i paid! great value. I didn't go to gear jewellers but they have since reduced their rings by 60% so you should definately check them out. I would also recommend Martin gear on Mary street (he was actually best price for solitaires) and Patrick Glynn on middle abbey street is meant to be great but only opened mon-fri. I would avoid fields as a lot of their rings are "hollowed" out and also Ernst jones diamonds are poor clarity a lot I saw were i1. Funnily enough weirs, Ernst jones and fields were all the same price for a particular ring. Weirs rings are far far superior imho. Rocks have reduced their prices a lot since I got mine, it might be worth a look if you like the "halo" style.

H2B picked my ring and god love him he must have visited every jeweller in Dublin! In the end he went with John Brereton - he said they made him feel like he was the only man ever to buy and engagement ring and really listened to what he had in mind for my ring. He found them so nice to deal with and so reasonably priced that we are getting our wedding rings with them now as well. :D

Avoid The High Street , I went to a diamond broker in Dublin with a picture of the ring I wanted and saved a small fortune, plus I had it independently valued at nearly 2x what I paid for it. PM if you want the name, otherwise google diamond brokers.

These guys sell to the jewellers but also sell direct.

    my 2 cents

Bought in thomas gear a few weeks ago too and have no complaints. My girlfriend knew nothing about the proposal so my opinion is only from a guys perspective. I wasn't looking for anything in the way of great service i.e. where you get champagne and they make a big fuss about you etc....i just wanted to find the right ring at the right price and this place ticked both those boxes. Plenty of choice and all fairly reasonable compared to most jewellers. It was probably more stressful choosing the right ring (not knowing anything about buying rings!) than proposing but they were very helpful in the shop and i had it all sorted quite quickly. No issues after bringing it back to be resized either....all done within an hour. Would definitely recommend them.

    What does hallowed out mean?

Hallowed out means that part of the inside of the ring is scooped out. Therefore rings are lighter and contain less gold. Every ring I saw in fields bar one was hallowed out. If you buy "diamondique" rings from qvc they will be hallowed out but in fairness they are less than €50!!

Go to Seamus in Voltaire diamonds. He done my ring. You pick a style you like, give him your price budget and he will make you a ring for that price.

    I adore mine!!

Id advise going to London, Dublin seems to be the worlds most expensive place to buy diamonds.

I'd go to the birmingham jewellry quarter.
