Fiat Punto Mk2 Dashboard

    Hi everyone.

I currently have a Fiat Punto MK2 and I am interested in changing the dashboard from this:
    http://s3.hubimg.com/u/4987990_f520.jpg

    to this:
    http://download.weteling.com/fiat/dash1.JPG

I really want to do this and I am just not sure if I can. Would all the dials work on the new one(especially the temperature, as that's what I'm really interested in)? Would my car have all the contacts needed for it? Would the adaptor at the back be the same?

Thanks for all your comments. :)

Changing instrument clusters is usually easy when you just swap one for a similar.
However, you want to go from odometer, dig clock and fuel gauge to odometer, dig clock with extra functions, fuel gauge, temp and rev meter.
Putting a more modern cluster on an older model will not let you avail of the newer functions without a lot of rewiring.
The connections will not be right as the newer cluster will use a different connection.

Are they both Punto, just different years?
Does old Punto even have a rev meter?

Could very well be a straight swap, best ask dgt

First is a MIA, second a ELX.

I've done that job for a friend
    A straight swap
But by the looks of it ur original dash is from a 99-03 model
A d the second pic is from a 03-06 model
The 99-03 does have a dash cluster similar to that though
Just make sure it's from the same engine size and I think you'll be grand

And do let us know how you got on, in case someone else might want to so a similar job.

It should work perfectly other than the mileage reading. AFAIK you have to go to fiat to have that part sorted.

    Straight swap :)

I'd be inclined to keep mk2 and mk2b dashes separate eg if you have a 01 car get a dash from a 99-03 car.

You'll need a set of allen keys. Remove the surround, 4 screws. Speedo is held in with 3 screws.

    Get a speedo from a scrappy :)

    Keep us updated!

Hey guys. Thanks for all the responses.

These pictures are actually just from the internet. I just looked for the similar image. But anyway, my Fiat is a Punto 5dr MK2 and the car that I got this from 'I Believe' is a MK2 as well. Just not sure if sport or not.

A sport MK2 has the Rev counter as well. A family friend of mine has one and he has the Rev counter, temp and everything else. I've also seen other MK2 Puntos with the additional functions mentioned. I'm really just not sure if my car has the wires.

I will try this out tomorrow and I'll let you guys know. Can't really say anything for sure unless we try it out, right? Thanks again. :)

    Here you go:

    http://www.fiatforum.com/punto-guides/228925-changing-instrument-cluster-low-spec-punto.html

Read this guide carefully - it says that the mileage will flash because the cluster your installing will not be matched to the car. Anyone with Fiat Multiscan or Examiner software should be able to carry out a proxy alignment to get around this.

So the rev meter and the temp will work in the new cluster?
    How is that?

Same loom in both cars, more basic cluster in the base model.

Sensors already in the engine, the ecu just sends a signal to the loom for the speedo. If there's dials it displays the data sent by the ecu... Cheaper for Fiat to make one loom as opposed to several different looms hence a lot of extras/plug ins are plug and play (Peugeot: take note)

    I hope I've explained it right! :)

The ECU supplies the cluster with the RPM and Temp data. If the basic cluster is fitted then obviously the clocks are not there and that data is ignored. If you fit one with the clocks, it reads the data and works.

OP, I've never used my Fiat Multiscan to do a Proxi Alignment on a MK2 Punto, but I did find the note below on the procedure. Note the bits I've hightlighted in red
The PROXI Alignment procedure is used to configure the modules connected to the CAN network of the vehicle. A flashing odometer indicates the the PROXI is not aligned properly. If your odometer flashes or you have added/removed/replaced CAN modules from your vehicle then you need to execute this procedure. The most common cases when you need PROXI Alignment is after replacing your Instrument Cluster or after replacing/retrofitting a Connect Nav module.
NOTE: Please read carefully all data on the "Info" screen. Check if available and configured modules correspond to your vehicle. Also, if the Info screen shows that added or removed ECUs are detected, check if those ECUs are detected correctly.
NOTE: Make sure that your FiatECUScan log files folder is configured properly as the program will write some important information about your current PROXY configuration and you will need to send the log file to the author in case of procedure failure.
NOTE: The "Indicators Command" and "Alarm Country Mode" will be restored to the factory default value after this procedure. You may need to connect to the Body Computer and correct these settings after execution of this procedure (you need to know your vehicle's 5-digit security code to do that).
WARNING: DO NOT INTERRUPT the procedure once it has started. The key should be at MAR and Engine OFF. After successfull execution of the procedure turn your key to OFF and wait at least 5 seconds before turning it back ON
    .

Well after a few weeks, finally I got the time to try it out. Everything's working but the little LCD screen is blinking as we have expected. Anyone know of someone doing this PROXI Alignment thing?

Have you got an OBD cable? The software

Sorry but I don't even know what an OBD cable is. And I've looked at that software and it says that I would have to pay to access the Proxi alignment feature. Well if I'm only going to do it once then I kind of wouldn't want to buy the software if I could get it done for less. Also I'd need to buy that OBD cable too right?

Yes. You'd need to buy both...

I don't have that sort of equipment myself but you can pick up cables on ebay for £10

Well I really don't know if I should buy it or not. Anyway, for the meantime, I'll just have it the way it is. The blinking doesn't really bother me anyway.

If anyone out there knows of someone who can do this PROXI alignment for me, please do let me know. Thanks a lot for all your help guys. :)
