    Hi,

Where do I begin? I'm 22 going 23 in a few weeks and i'm super frustrated with my "life"? if you could call it that.. its just existence at the moment. I've been unemployed since I was 20, I've been to college I've done courses I'm well qualified for my area yet I still cant get a job? Its demoralizing and depressing, I feel alienated in my own country and feel that theres no real hope for the future, And it irritates me that I look around and see people who I went to school with in nice cars paid for by drug money. Its gotten so bad that I've had to lie on my cv about work experience and have asked a manager in my mothers friends job to give me a reference, I feel terrible about it but I am not willing to become a statistic and unemployable by the time I reach 25-26. This is supposed to be best time of my life where I set myself up for the future and look forward to a career but theres nothing but uncertainty for me. I've even separated myself from my friends basically because they do nothing other than smoke weed and take ecstasy and stab each other in the back, they sit around all day playing stupid video games and never want to do anything. They wont come out for a beer at night, go to the cinema, go for a meal they just want to sit around in someones house.. and to be honest I'm fed up with it all I feel damned and stuck and tired :( and I cant even emigrate as I dont have the air fare to get to London never mind rent and living costs I feel totally screwed. Sorry for the rant but hopefully someone has some advice they'll be able to share.

Read your post and can see the frustration in there, always worth bearing in mind that the world is in constant flux and things might change, the mind is a tyrant and can have you convinced of the hopelessness of everything.

Best 'here and now' advice I can think of is to 'get into something' it could be whatever you#re interested in, maybe learn German with an eye to moving over there in 18 months to 2 years, if that's not your bag then get involved in left wing politics and get to meet interesting people at meetings and so forth.

I had the misfortune to be born and reared in a kip and wasted my time hanging about with knobheads and losers until about the age of 22, perhaps your're similar in the sense that your're a fish out of water as regards what was mapped out for you by your circumstances.

We live in a joke world where $18M gets handed over to a 17 year old for designing some stupid app for a phone and an entire generation is written as superfluous cannon fodder by politicians and bankers.

    Hey,

I know the feeling of being stuck at home and unemployed, it sucks!

Basically just keep plugging away and applying, you WILL get something eventually. Second dd972, find something you're passionate about and get into it, there are a lot of things that are free! :)

OK, as you say emigration is a costly option. Forget London, you couldn't have hardly picked a more expensive place! How about anywhere else in the UK? Or if you want to stay in Ireland would you consider moving to a city/another town for a job? Can your parents help you out with deposits etc?

I know a girl who hated her college course, jacked it in and just moved off to France with hardly any money and got a bar job there. I always admired that kind of attitude and hope to emulate it someday soon! Take a chance OP, grab everything you can while you're young.

I know it's impossible without money. I know it's incredibly frustrating seeing those who don't deserve it with it. But keep going. You'll get there eventually.

Hi OP. In the same boat. Have you looked at any jobs in the UK? If you get a job maybe take out a small loan from the credit union or something to set you up? And pay it back when you have the ball in motion.
