Issue with Dell 2412m looking for advice.

    Folks,

Took delivery of a new Dell U2412m monitor on Tuesday. Looks great and the latest games I have look fantastic running on it (Tomb Raider, Crysis 3 and BioShock Infinite).

The only issue I have is that each day so far I have encountered the following problem. See pictures....................

    IMG_1161_zps4c894a5c.jpg
    IMG_1160_zpsfdd95a29.jpg

The PC which is running fine with no issues is not the cause. The graphics card that the monitor is connected to is a Gigabyte Windforce HD7950 3GB and has never had an issue until this monitor was connected.

It has happened once per day and you have to reset the pc to get a normal image again.

I have it connected using a display port connection. I'm also running an older Dell 2007 WFP in my Dual Display setup and this screen remains fine when the other monitor craps out

Once a day is once too much for me and I'm thinking of contacting Overclockers.co.uk to request an RMA and replacement.

Thoughts and advice would be very much appreciated.

Any advice folks.................. I want to get back to the vendor if this is a problem that warrants an RMA.

Has anyone else ever seen this type of issue and if so whats the likely cause?

    Apologies for bump.

have you tried a different cable?

Have you tried a different monitor in the same GPU port with the same cable?
Have you tried the same monitor in a different port with a different cable?
    Combinations of above, etc.

    Thanks for response.....

I don't have another monitor with a display port connection.

Working the next three nights but will try the new monitor with a DVI connection on Monday evening.

Could it be the Display Port Cable? Surely if this was the case the problem would happen on a more regular basis

Its very strange that the problem only occurs each time on a single occasion per day and the PC is not performing any unusual tasks when it occurs.

I've posted on the Overclockers.co.uk Customer support forum also asking for advice.

Its a great monitor and the games look fantastic running on it. If it has to be returned via RMA I will be looking to get another.

Tried reinstalling gpu drivers?, I assume the temps are all normal, try checking the cable connection for obvious faults and the like. I have seen monitors scrambled out like that although its rare, so if all else fails try getting a replacement/refund.

you could try a non display port one if youve any handy, first to narrow it down to either the cable or the display port connections

graphic distortion is normally a ram issue, maybe u could run memtest (small program which u could put on cd \ usb key, cant link it to u on mu mobile device)
id do that first just to rule it out, but more than likely in your case, it is an issue with the monitor
I presume the issue didn't occur with your old monitor?

Could well be a driver issue as a previous poster in this thread pointed out (although I doubt it) Try using different catalst versions (with using driver sweeper in-between installs)

Never had this issue in the past with old monitor. :(

Well that kinda rules out the RAM or PC hardware issue. Has to be a faulty monitor so....I reckon

It doesn't rule out a faulty DisplayPort on the graphics card itself. If the monitor has no issues through DVI then it's either the port on the card, the monitor or the cable itself. May as well rule everything out before sending back a monitor to find it happens with the next one as well.

Returned a 7970 last year with a dodgy displayport, moving the cable caused it to loose the picture, it was not soldered on correctly I suppose. I would not rule out a similar issue inn your case.

As indough posted, you could try a different cable to rule out the monitor-pretty sure a 2412 comes with a DVI cable at least, unless Dell are becoming totally cheap bastards.

I have a DVI cable but I already have a second monitor up and running using the single DVI connection on my Graphics Card. The other options are HDMI and mini display port x 2. The Dell U2412m does not have an HDMI connection so Display port is the only option unless I get an adaptor of some sort.

I have freshly installed new drivers and hopefully thats all it was.:):)

can you not just swap the dvi from one monitor to the other?

An active DisplayPort => DVI adapter would do, but best to rule out the Dell monitor first by running it on the GPU's DVI first.

I plan to have a two monitor setup which means I need to used the display port on the new monitor.

At this point I have yet to see the issue re-appear so I might have nothing to be concerned about.

Graphics Drivers are now fully updated so that may have been the issue.

Fingers Crossed as its a smashing monitor.

yeah but im only telling you this so that you can narrow down the problem by process of elimination mate, not as a permanent fix or anything

Just a quick note that if the monitor is indeed faulty (which seems unlikely) Dell have a fantastic warranty programme with the ultrasharp series of monitors known as the "Premium panel guarantee"

Up to a period of three years, if the monitor develops a fault, simply call up dell and they will arrange a courier to deliver a refurbished monitor (and also pick up your panel in the process - meaning no downtime)

Thanks for your help. Hopefully the new install of the latest AMD Drivers & Catalyst Control Center have solved the problem.

Nothing worse than getting an issue after carefully researching a purchase.
