I'd hardly call Simon Delaney washed up. He's only just broke into Hollywood, in his next film himself and Vince Vaughn play brothers.

What is he doing on 2FM so?

Some extra work while he's in Ireland?? Im sure plenty of people would love to fill in, hardly fair for people to say he's washed up, id say his career is hitting new highs now.

Simon Delaney for Tubridy can't surely be nearly as bad as Neil Delamere filling in for John Murray. Or even John Murray.

Listened this morning, he was very poor to be honest. Could be down to first-day jitters though.

He's on next week too (Tubs sitting in for Simon Mayo on BBC Radio 2).

So Tubridy has someone filling in for him, while he goes to another broadcasting company to fill in for someone else? Does he take holidays to do this? :P

This is exceptionally poor form from John Mc Mahon. Ive criticised before his penchant for using tv celebrities on radio, Delaney is a well known and likeable chap but he's an actor, its disrespectful to both the listeners and to actual dyed in the wool radio talent to parachute people like him into the job however temporarily. Secondly, allowing one of the biggest names and highest paid RTE presenters to indulge his ego and ambition with the prize of a slot on the BBC is also poor form. Surely for the half a million or whatever Tubs is paid by RTE there should be a clause preventing him from moonlighting for any other broadcaster especially when his listenership numbers have been in freefall for some time and its blatantly clear that he would jump ship if the BEEB came in with a concrete offer. This is about the optics of the situation. Is this country so lacking in radio talent that our national broadcaster that Mc mahon has no option but to use actors as temp replacements for wantaway underperforming overpaid radio presenters? I dont think so.

Symptomatic of the cult of celebrity unfortunately enough.

Chris Moyles recently toured as Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar, while even Russell Grant was parachuted into the Wizard of OZ in the West End, following his stint on some BBC dancing show.

For actors and performers who've worked hard to get on, I'd imagine it's pretty unpalatable stuff.
