Advice/Opinions needed

Ok.. I have a quick question..

Training for Antwerp marathon 21st April, completed 18miler at PMP last tuesday (just for a reference on my fitness). On about Wed/Thur last week I developed some pain in my calf/ankle which turns out to possibly be tendonitis.
My physio has advised that I lay off it for a week or so but has said that cycling and swimming wont do it any harm.

My question is this... how much fitness am I likely to lose by not doing any running for a week this close to the marathon?
Will cycling maintain the fitness I have already?

I had planned on a 5min/km pace to hopefully try for a sub 3.30.....
Should I revise this back in light of the injury??

Hopefully in a few days ill be back on the road but getting a bit antsy st the minute!!

I cant see your fitness going after just a week, any time Im sore I normaly take the rest of the week off and I'm back to normal.

Rome was not built in a day. I had like 5/6 days off in taper before Dublin. It has probably happened at the best possible time. I would take the physio's advise and simulate your runs and efforts on the bike. If you don't take the advise you risk a DNS.

Your body needs a rest after that workout. Did you warm up and warm down afterwards ? Take the rest your body needs, Recovery is the most important part of your training plan. Stress/Recover rinse and repeat.

Yeah, your lucky in the sense that you are now entering your taper week... I would say you would be fine to take the week off completely and not suffer too much as a result...but if you can get in some training on a bike and in the pool you will be doing great...

If you have put in the hard training over the last 6-8 weeks then that should be enough and now its time to recover by resting...Once you get back, dont go mental, you will need to be fresh on race day to run a PB

You won't lose any fitness. Just make sure you commit to the bike in the same manner as you had committed to running.

18 miles @ pmp? Definitely do not re-adjust your target

    Thanks for the advice guys.
Had just been thinking that it was a bit far out from the marathon to begin to taper, will miss a long run as a result of this but i guess it is better to be 100% fit and ready on the day.
leg feels much better today after physio and plenty ice last night so hopefully things are heading in the right direction.

@ Ger664 - the workout included warm up/down and stretching.

will rest it and try and replace runs with biking.... roll on 21st April

    thanks again guys
