Daym, I just bought oil in Halfords a few days ago and just saw Lidl are having oil on sale soon along with other car products.

Disclaimer: I use this oil for the GFs old 90's Micra.
If you're not sure what to get or are particular, don't get this oil.

Halfords is 30% off on Castrol at the minute. Thinking of picking up some tomorrow just to get away from my thesis.

yeah but the 3sGE is specced for 10w40 semi...anyway I'm aiming to change it every 7000 or so miles now.

The hand stuff is great and lasts forever!

Ive always change oil with 10w 40 part synthetic, on Mick's garage when using drop down menu ,oil for your car it recommends fully synthetic 5w 30? it a 1998 Astra G 1.4 16v,
should i stick with the 10w 40 or go with 5w 30 full synthetic? whats the difference ?

10w40 is fine for your car but fully synth works faster and better when cold and also lasts longer. It is also more resistant to extreme heat created in a turbo charger.

10w40 magnatec Specifications and Manufacturer Approvals

    API SL / API CF
    ACEA A3/B4
    VW 501 01 / VW 505 00
    MB-Approval 229.1
    Meets Fiat 9.55535.D2

This 5w40 would be better all round.

    Champion 5w40 SPECIFICATION LEVEL
    API: SN/CF
    FORD: WSS-M2C917-A
    MB: 229.31
    VW: Approval 502 00
    VW: Approval 505 00
    VW: Approval 505 01
    ACEA: C3-10
    RENAULT: RN 0700
    RENAULT: RN 0710
    BMW: LONGLIFE-04
    GM: dexos 2
    PORSCHE: A40

    Those specs speak for themselves.

No turbo in mine....at this stage I'm not going to mess with the oils as I will be changing it frequently anyway.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

The Lidl Fully Synthetic Oil at €5 per litre is very good value for a high-spec oil. Specs here.

    My Toyota is recommended 5w30
Lidl 15w40 seems a bit over the top for our climate, and what is the quality of the oil

15w40 is too heavy for modern cars
