Hi all just asking if anyone here has experience at Trim airfield training with Trim flying club? Thinking of heading up there to have a look around would that be cool with them? What's the training and instructors like? Thanks in advance

I went through all that, checked out Trim, the field was water logged at the time as they dont have a tarmac runway. Many end up it seems completing in the North. People have gotten their PPL in 3 weeks up there. Ground exams =can do them at your pace. Here its every 2 months, all at once and repeat in 2 any that have been failed.

Here you could spend years going in circles . In fairness Weston seems to buck the trend from what Ive seen of the above but the ground exam problem still exists and you cant progress until they are out of the way. It is best completing them early to focus on the most important part -the flying.

Trim is fine. It took me exactly 12 months to get my PPL there. As regards the exams I understand that there are great plans to make the sittings much more flexible.

Cool, could you give me any more details about instruction, availability of aircraft, is there a plan for you set up when you join detailing when you will train? What is the condition of the aircraft? What was your overall experience like? Thanks

When the runway is dry it is a lovely field to train from. Careful of the trees on approach to the easterly runway and vica versa taking off to the west.

Co.Meath in general this year has been a wash out re rainfall and grass runways. Ballyboy faired no better.

Hi Gulfstream757, please note our aircraft are currently at Weston for the winter period (I know its Summer next week :) ) so there will be nobody at the airfield in Trim if you call down.

We have a special on Intro flights at the moment which are the ideal way to have a look around, chat to the Instructors, with no commitment to membership.

If you need further info, you can contact us through our website. ;)

    Thanks

12 mo is good going actually very good going. As regards the exams that could take years with the IAA. In fact the exams are changing in the UK soon and they want to have fewer of them with different questions so its reakoned anyone who wants to do them should do them now.

The folks up at Newtownards are very friendly and progressive. You wont be hanging around getting a PPL up there thats for sure. Tarmac runways and great instructor availability 7 days a week. Im sure Trim is fine but my experiance of ringing them a few times was the field was water logged. The problem seems to be solved now by relocating to Weston so thats all good.
