Just a bit of a rant.
I ordered 2 pairs of socks on amazon, they said delivery to Ireland would cost 17 euro, my purchases only cost 14 euro.
Then I changed the delivery address to my mums in England, and delivery was 2 euro.
How can they justify charging 17 euro to Ireland????

Was this amazon.co.uk or a 3rd party seller on amazon? Post a link if you are unsure, I am guessing it is 3rd party, many of who just have a blanket international charge.

If it is amazon.co.uk and your order is over £25 you usually get free delivery as an option. So it often ends up cheaper to buy more stuff, and you are free to mix & match between departments, like socks & a cheap dvd to get the total over £25.

Or you could use Parcel Motel.

It was a third party seller. Its not too bad as I'll visit my mum in 3 weeks, but I should never be encouraged to shop more :D
I completely forgot about parcel motel.
I really should register with them.

    Hey

I sell stuff on Amazon myself using their fulfillment centre and unfortunately this sounds about right.

It's not Amazon's fault, it's just the postal rates are ridiculous from UK to Ireland. They're so bad that I actually don't sell stuff in Ireland from the UK.

Blame the postal service rather than Amazon IMO.

That's a real disadvantage from AMAZON-UK FBA: The postal rates and the obligation to register for VAT in the UK if you use Amazon-UK FBA...

I sell mostly to UK customers though so it suits me!

I've bought plenty of stuff recently via Amazon both from Amazon and third party sellers and have never been charged anywhere near that and most items I buy would be a lot heavier then a pair of socks...

But all the paperwork with UK Revenue since you're obliged to register for VAT in the UK if you use Amazon FBA...
