I have personal experience of www.dolphinmusic.co.uk and found their customer service second to none. It would not be as big as Thomann but still a large selection of items.

I have no experience of http://www.gak.co.uk/ but have read good reports about them.

Depends what you´re buying. In general UK shops are more expensive.

Yeah www.gak.co.uk are good, bought a number of things off them over the years. Always liked them since an amp I bought off them developed a fault, and they sent out a new replacement to me before I'd shipped back the faulty one.

Exact same thing happened to me with "Dolphin Music", i.e. an amp I bought from them developed a fault. It was replaced very quickly, with good communication in the precess. Two or three weeks after delivery of the replacement, I received a phone call asking if I was happy with the new amp.

If you're looking for a good traditional bricks and mortar shop in the west of Ireland, try Modern Music in Galway. Excellent service and good prices too.

    volume.

they sell 100 where other shops might sell 10. 10 euro profit on 100 items is more in the kitty than 20 profit oe each of 10.....

I second Dolphin Music, great service.

I used to buy from them quite regularly back in the day when the exchange rate was so good that you could save a fortune buying from the UK.

I've noticed the opposite from my experiences.

    I respectfully but completely disagree.

UK shops are consistently more expensive than the likes of Thomann, although I´m not bothered collecting a sample of prices to demonstrate this.

I have bought from both waltons and thoamann recently as each were cheaper for what I wanted at the time.

Another +1 for Dolphin for service.
But for price you have to pick and choose when to buy based on exchange rates, any delivery costs you might incur and of course the actual price. I have saved money using them over Thomann in the past. But not much :)

It is worth shopping around and not ruling out any shop as many Irish shops are just as cheap if not as cheap as thomann or any other online shop. For example

    http://www.xmusic.ie/Marshall-Jvm205C-p-23707.html €1099

    http://www.thomann.de/ie/marshall_jvm205c.htm €1399

www.DV247.com in the UK another good site.

I find prices vary on all these sites except the german sites seem to be very close all the time.

I suspect that Thomann and Musicstore have some kind of system that allows them to monitor each other's prices and change them accordingly. Countless times I've seen prices change on both, only to change again a few days later.

I really recommend shopping around as well, i recently purchased off of thomann but had been searching around on various sites for different guitars and amps and they all have their items where they'll be cheaper than their competition.

We'll have to agree to disagree. Currently I'm comparing the price of a Yamaha drum kit and it works out 45 euro cheaper with GAK over Musicstore. Same price difference with a Sabian cymbal. With a guitar I bought, Dolphin were cheaper by 50ish euro.
