An Post - are they dropping the ball?

I have recently posted the item (few weeks back) from Dublin to Dublin that took An Post over a week to deliver. And that was after inquiring where was it.
Followed by a parcel from US (thankfully insured) that got lost in transit. Posted from US 9 days ago with last trace from US handler dating 7 days ago with status on the way to destination.
Few weeks ago postman buzzed the apartment intercom and when I answered I heard this - "there is a parcel for you I am leaving it here at the door". I ran downstairs to the apartment block entrance and found the parcel at the door. Good thing I was dressed to leave and no itchy fingers person was around.
Finally just today I went to check post and saw this (letter box numbers blurred):
    anpost.jpg
Is this normal practice or is it just wrong? I know Easter coming and all but come on.. delayed deliveries, missed parcels or left at the public entrance and items that don't fit into the box just left hanging?

The package is not loose enough, you need a bigger postbox.

Some would say they're dropping it.

In all fairness what do you want An Post to do about it. Its hardly their fault the post boxes are too small

Been incredibly lazy for a while now, theres a few reports on here of delivery vans not even attempting to deliver stuff and just leaving the notes into houses saying when and where to collect it, sometimes even when they are caught they admit they dont even have the item on the truck

As well, he realised this himself and let you know he had a parcel for you.

Not sure what else he can do in fairness...

Does that prove that An Post lost it? Might be the airline, customs may have inspected etc.

You need to march into the An Post sorting office and confront them

You could arrange to pick up all your post at the post office.

I'd be raging if I posted a ball and they lost it, or even in this case relaxed the packaging.

Storm the GPO, who's with me?

That's why the items just left hanging like that? So anyone can collect them as they pass?

Won't find much there other than few youngsters with Nike shoes, extra long trousers dragging behind and An Post t-shirts.

Wouldn't mind if I could trust them. In the past An Post was great but I am getting mixed feelings since the end of 2012.

Have found the "sorry we missed you" note before even though no one had knocked on the door.

If they were delivering balls there is no was theywould fit in your post box, unless they were teeny tiny ones or deflated.

If they were delivering inflated balls then surely dropping them wouldn't be an issue

What is the point of stocking up? The postage has to be correct when the letter is posted.
