Backpack numbers

Silly question perhaps - I've searched on Google but got no answers...

But what does the 20+5, 30+6 etc. numbers signify on a backpack?

I know that it refers to capacity of the backpack in litres but does this mean there are two compartments or two separate bags, or what?

And the other query is - are the dimensions of the bag including the extra 5/6 litres? So can I reduce the size of the backpack if I leave the other compartment/bag empty and squash it down?

    Kind regards,

    Third

Yeah, it's the capacity - most backpacks have a removable front smaller pack.

The main compartment is the larger number in litres, e.g. 30+5 means the main backpack fits 30 litres. The 5 is a separate compartment which can be different on different models. Some are the top flap of a backpack and some are larger side-pockets, e.g. one on each side.
