Gift for commuter

    Hi guys,

Looking for ideas here for my dad who is commuting for approx an hour each way, monday to friday in his car. His birthday is coming up and I know the commute is annoying him so I'm trying to think of a present to make it slightly more fun for him.

He's quite technically minded, has a solid MP3 player in his car already so that's out. His back gives him trouble every once in a while so I was thinking maybe something to do with the seats? He is planning to change cars in the next year or two also so something that could move cars would also be great.

Anyone have any ideas about what i could get him? Really appreciate the time taken to read this :)

Why not buy him something car related but fun like a voucher for mondello school of motoring or whatever it's called.

    Thanks for the suggestion :)

He used to be a garda in the traffic corps so he's not keen on spending more time in the car than necessary, at least thats the vibe I'm getting from him.
I was thinking something more along the lines of a gadget to make the time go by quicker or make the commute more comfortable?

Taxi drivers used to almost universally have a seat cover with wooden beads in it - like this, they'd swear it was good for the back and legs (and stopped them getting all sweaty as well).

    2 words. Audio Books.

How about getting him a subscription to Audible.com? He can throw them on his MP3 and away he goes. My commute is about 45 minutes, and to be honest, I would be lost with audio books.

I actually bought my dad one of those heated car seat massage things a couple of years back, half as a joke because he has a bit of a dodgy back at times. But he put it in the car and actually used it, said it was great! Surprising but maybe worth a look.

Give his car a Valet out & inside, fresh clean car is more relaxing to drive that one that cluttered from commuting daily its FREE bar some elbow work for yourself & any other family crew you can rope in to help - local companies probably do for around €50/€70 for decent finish.

Cheers for the ideas guys! I knew you'd be the right crew to ask :)

Gonna go research some of these now and see what I can come up with :)

    Thanks again!

Probably out of your budget, but the best present ever would be a taxi plate so your dad can use the bus lanes, the commute would be much quicker.

    On a more realistic note,

Does the mp3 player have an aux in port? Does your dad have a smartphone?

Using the TuneIn Radio app you can tune into almost any radio station around the world, and loads of podcasts available too.

A good quality pair of polarized sun glasses. Wet roads + Sun can be tiring and seriously reduce your ability to see the road ahead. These go a long way to mitigating this.

Ooh, +1 on this idea. Everyone with a drivers license should own a pair of polarised shades.
