Round Black Cylinder?!

The front right of my 2001 (6N2) Polo took a box recently and did a small amount of damage and the engine management light came on. Under the bonnet on the drivers side there was damage to a medium size round black cylinder with 2 pipes coming out of the top, One of the pipes was loose and putting your finger over it, you could feel a small suction coming from it.

I took it too a mechanic and he just repaired the clear damage that was done by reattaching the pipe and resetting the engine management light, and off I went.

Today, the lights back on... and the mechanic failing to tell me what the cylinder was kinda galls me.

Anyone have any idea what I this cylinder might be? I feel like some spare gob****e the way I've described it but I cant take a pic since the machine has it reattached and a clear view simply cannot be achieved.

    It's a 1 liter petrol (999cc)

Also since I'm bit of a tech head I've got the ECU error codes which reads: P0141 02 Sensor Heater Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 2) however since I know sweet f.a about cars, that might as well be in Chinese.

A picture would probably help. I'm not sure what the 6n2 engine bay even looks like, and since you haven't even told us what engine it is it could be anything.

    P0141 02 Sensor Heater Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 2)

This refers the post cat O2 sensor (after the cat, not before) heating circuit. It may needs a new sensor or a fault in the wiring, first check fuses. Since it got a smash, theres a good chance of damage to the wiring or a blown fuse.

It dosent relate to the cannister (Cylinder)
