Dropped out of my course - Switching from BTEA to Jobseekers

    Hi

I have been receiving BTEA for the past 2 years, and last month I dropped out of my course as I will be commencing a new one in May.

My BTEA has now obviously been suspended as I would not be able to provide a letter from college confirming my attendance.

Can I now apply for Jobseekers?

Any help greatly appreciated as I have recently been laid off in my part time evening job, so from having 2 sources of income I now have none whatsoever.

    Many thanks

I think you have to be out of education for 3 months to qualify. this may not be true in your case but ask at social welfare office

Really? That's fantastic news if true!

Do you know if its likely to be a brand new application or because I've been on BTEA so recently they'll use my current details and switch me over?

If you have just left school you cannot get Jobseeker's Allowance. To get Jobseeker's Allowance you must have been out of school for three months and you must be at least 18 years of age.

    From here http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/social_welfare/social_welfare_payments/unemployed_people/jobseekers_allowance.html

I have no idea if they will use your present details or call it a new claim.
