Mondeo Rattling at Rear

    Hey,

2005 Petrol Mondeo. Had rattling at the rear quite bad.

Brought it to mechanic, he fitted droplinks & d-bushings.

Rattling is gone when driving on smooth roads now, but if I drive over a rough bit of ground or a deep manhole etc it rattles a good bit on contact (rear only).

    Any ideas?

Sounds like you need to listen to the mechanic.

    It's a common issue

Edit....Spastic post: I misread the OP.

Sorry, I though you said he advised rather than he done the bushing :o

Is there anything loose? I know it sounds silly but it could be something simple thats rattling around

Not sure if there's anything loose. I'd doubt it, but there could be. The mechanic just fitted those parts and said everything else looked fine so I couldn't see anything being loose..

Check the latch where the boot lid locks to the body

Check that the handbrake cables aren't knocking off the rear suspension arms. They should be clipped in place but the clip often breaks. A cable tie will do the job if the clip is broken.

I'm not sure you "just fit" the subframe bushings, I'd say there's a fair amount of spannering to get them done. Compared to droplinks anyway!

Have come across this personally before it nearly drove me mad, plenty vaseline on the latch and on the lock and my sanity came back!!:):)

Spare tyre secured? Jack and accessories not able to rattle around?

    Sounds like rear subframe bushings.

Chances are he checked the suspension on a two post ramp with the suspension hanging so he wouldnt get any play in the subframe bushings its a common fault.

Bushings are about a hundred euro and about an hour to an hour and a halfs labour.
