Natural slates wanted.

    Hi. im currently renovating an old cottage and am considering using some natural slates instead of new ones.Can some 1 advise me on how much i should pay and the quality i shoud be looking for.. ive priced some new slates which have old look called Rivendale slates.. but are coming in at 1.75 each which i would prefer to pay for proper natural slates if i could...i also priced some new ones from a quarry in county meath but are priced t 2.40 a piece which the budget doesnt allow for.....any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Did you get to source your slates yet, your old cottage would certainly lend itself to old slates. i have fitted many rivendale slates and as manmade slates go, they are grand, perfectly functional, but tend to loose their new look after a few years IMHO( bit pricey though). there is a company in north kildare that supply a brazilian natural grey/black slate for around 1.50 ex vat, but a lovely slate, and as far as i can recall will deliver anywhere. i could Pm you their number if you are interested and make contact yourself. Just to clarify i have no affiliation with them whatsoever,i have used many of their slates, great honest and friendly service.
