    Hi All,

    Appreciate some advice...

I have a 07 1.9TDI(BXE) VW Passat, and have had the clutch & DMF replaced within the last 6 months. Dropping it for a service, and noticed from the service book that it's well overdue a Brake Fluid service.

I've heard that the clutch and breaks work from the same fluid resevoir.
If the clutch and DMF were replaced then am I correct in assuming that they fluid was replaced when done ?
If this is so, then do I need the break fluid service ?

    Thanks,
    Gijoo.

They do work off the same system in many cars but on your Passat there is no reason to disconnect any fluid lines to change the clutch as the slave cylinder is external on the gearbox.

Brake fluid changes are due every 2 years according to most manufacturers and while this is a very safe margin, your car is now 6 years old so the fluid will certainly need to be changed especially if you have a few KM's on the clock.

Your timing belt is over due too if you haven't had that changed.

Nissan Doctor - Thanks a million for that.

I've bought her just over 1 yr ago, and had the Timeing belt & water Pump replace at purchase. As a rough guide any guess on how much extra a brake fluid replacement would be ontop of a full service ?

    Thanks,
    Gijoo.

We normally charge €45 for a brake fluid change as a guide.
