    Hey
I'm driving a 2001 Corolla. My sister decided to lose the last set of keys
I have. I'm very stuck now. Anyone have any advice of ways about getting a new set cut somehow?
    Thanks

Might be worth a try calling into any Toyota dealers near you, probably will cost a arm and a leg but having a locksmith come out and cut up a key then having it programed would probably cost just as much
also if you do call into a dealer you will more than likely need proof of address, photo ID and the tax book

Èvery set of keys has a code for getting replacements ordered. If you have any if the cars original documentation then it may be there, failing that you'll need to get onto Toyota for the original code.

The only other, much messier option, is to break a window, open the door and then have the locks changed for new ones with new keys.

Happend me last week with a BMW..had no choice to call a locksmith out (Locked my keys into my boot), had some fairly high tech lock picking devices. 120 quid but I had no choice.

I suppose your in a slightly worse situation than I was in though since you have no keys at all.

I'm not sure what type of lock setup Toyota use but if you have a knob along the top of the doorpad somewhere in the inside to lock/unlock the car, it is usually possible to remove the rubber sealing strip on the outside of the window and bend an old coat hanger or piece of thick wire into a hook and pull up the knob with it from the outside. There are probably Youtube videos of people doing this.

Check out lockdoctor.ie they operate in various parts of the country. I have used them in Kerry and found them very helpful and reasonable. They have a mobile service so they come to you if you are stuck.

That'll be the problem - there's no official possibility to code new keys into an ECU unless you have at least one coded MASTER transponder.

I already know what dealer would do - after you provide all necessary proofs of ownership they replace all locks and ECU and charge you approx 2000 (yes, two thousand) euro for that.

But try http://www.autokey.ie/ - they (hopefully) can do that cheaper. ;)

EDIT: Or get ECU from the same model (engine especially) and a matching key (black, not grey) from a scrapyard.

I was reading this thread and waiting for a post like joujoujou's.

I'm afraid that I think this is true... You are talking serious money... It's not a nice situation

Are you saying the dealer cannot get replacements or that the aftermarket trade cannot do it?

TBH I find it that extremely hard to believe. Thre has to be some contingency for replacing a lost master key before changing all the locks and ECU. OP, call Toyota. It won't be cheap, but it absolutely will not be €2000 - closer to €200 probably.

I had the same problem with a vw golf but the local dealer got me new keys for €80 . I had to get the AA to bring the car to them though.

Good to hear if something can be done for op...

I've known only 4 occasions through my work, and a buddy of mine it happened to, and in their cases they were talking nasty prices on cars worth only small money.

Be great to hear it sorted reasonably for op

It's true, a call to Toyota will probably only confirm what joujoujou said, that is if it's a 3door hathback or a Saloon. Someone I know was qouted around 1500 for the same thing on a 99 Starlet a good few years ago.

However the op might be in luck if their's is a 5door liftback as these were built in the UK and have a different(Valeo) setup to the Japanese Corollas, so a key could possibly be cut without any difficulties or big bills.

For the Jap built 3 door and 4 door Saloon, Toyota dealers cannot programme a new key to the cars ecu without the black key/keys. Even the grey key that matches the cars interior cannot be used to programme a new key for these. This is the reason for changing the ecu .

The UK built 5door liftback on the otherhand uses a Valeo key system that differs from the Japanese system so a key could possibly be got easily/cheaply enough for these.

Yeah, its a lesson learned Im afraid.
I got a mobile unit to come out to me. Otherwise Id have had to get it towed to a dealers and thatd add another 80ish.
It'll cost you E200, but the good news is that you wont make that mistake again!
    Just swallow it up.

If (unlikely) OP has a small metal plate (given by manufacturer) with key code on it - dealer can get replacements. Otherwise - only aftermarket or scrapyard.

Assuming OP's 'rolla is E11 (not E12), here's approximate pricelist:

    - transponder key with remote door lock = 276 each
    - ignition cylinder = 126
    - door cylinder set = 124 (for LH + RH locks)
    - luggage compartment lock = 62
    - and finally, the ECU = 1466

    Plus labour of course. :P

    Enjoy. :D

Not sure if this helps but I've been looking at various threads on this type of issue and http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=71636969 says Collerans of Galway might be of help?
