Buckers Bridge looks overpriced at 10/1.

Stan James have priced him up at 11/1.

I would love Mikael D'haguenet to win this but the more likely prediction is he won't get around. :(

Was there an excuse for Aupcharlie lto?

Not exactly the most vintage renewal. Says it all when Arvika and MB are heading up the betting.

I think I'd be willing to give dedigout a chance at 6/1 he looked to be verging on top class at 1 stage and IMO has the most potential of any of these.

Never really is. Can't remember one with a lot of top class grade 1 horses in it.

Hi Cloy beating Kicking King in 2004 was the last really good renewal I can recall. Nil Desperandum and Central House were in behind.

RP reports Ruby Walsh has done 9-13 in the last 12 months

    Townend has done 9-10?

4:30 Fairyhouse – Powers Gold Cup

BUCKERS BRIDGE really impressed me first time out over fences, jumping well in bad ground to come out best in an almighty battle with Sword of Destiny. He ran below form next time out, but I expect he was still feeling the effects of such a hard race. Having been given a break he returned to the track in February and ran a good race to beat Twinlight over an inadequate trip. Two and a half miles suits him perfectly and I can see him running a big race. He has won 5 of his 6 starts and is progressive and also fresh, which can prove critical at this stage of the season. Odds of 10/1 look fair and I can see him running very well. The main danger could prove to be Oscars Well who has taken well to fences and looked very good on his debut. He was a classy hurdler and jumped very well on his chase debut, but fell early on next time out and has not looked quite the same since. He has run well in defeat though, including beating Baily Green and Benefficient at Leopardstown, who both went on to frank the form at Cheltenham. He finished second to Arvika Ligeonniere that day, but that horse has not looked the same recently and Oscars Well has the benefit of a good break and with the extra distance of this race also likely to suit, he could prove hard to beat.

What happened to Sword Of Destiny? I was impressed with him last time out think he could be very good. He should have beaten Buckers Bridge that day as well.

Mount Benbulben, Mikael D'Haguenet, Oscars Wells, Dedigout, Buckers Bridge and Realt Mor line up.

    Best odds now,

    Mount Benbulen 11/4
    Dedigout 4/1
    Mikael D'haguenet 4/1
    Oscars Wells 4/1
    Buckers Bridge 8/1
    Realt Mor 9/1

Wonder what price Mikael will be with fallers insurance. If anyone is crazy and stupid enough like me to back Mikael D'haguenet I'd do it now. The horse is always backed heavily and I'd say with the Mullins and Ruby Walsh factor added in he will go off favourite. I'd probably be better off getting a lighter and burning a big pile of money. I'll never learn.

Was MB about 4/1 ? was thinking of backing but 11/4 seems a bit skimpy. Possible drift if money comes for Mikael?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

Think he was 9/2. Powers are 11/4 now Stan James 5/2 and William Hill 9/4.

Very competitive race. Any of them could conceivably win it. There are a handful of them who are decidedly dodgy jumpers too.

    True!

Mount Benbulben was a headcase on his first few starts.
Mikael D'haguenet, well it doesn't need to be explained.
Oscars Wells, fell and poor jumping last time out.
Dedigout, has not impressed in his jumping and has made lots of mistakes. Was better last time though don't really like the way he jumps a fence though seems to lose ground.
Buckers Bridge, seems a solid jumper to me.
Realt Mor, fell and unseated over fences.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

Mount Benbulben was hardly convincing at Thurles last time and the fences around there are nowhere near as imposing as those at Fairyhouse. Unless his confidence has grown as a result of that race, it wouldn't surprise me if he was on the deck again.

I'd agree that Buckers Bridge is the most solid and he would be my selection if I was having a bet. Realt Mor could be interesting if he was allowed to bowl along in front. Nicky Richards made a bit of a mess of him by all accounts and Elliot has a track record in improving these types of horses that he gets from other yards.

    This is a terrible renewal.

Johner Sword of Destiny is out until next year, I asked the same question a few months ago. Was at Punchestown the day he was beaten, really should have won

Mount Benbulben isn't a natural chaser by any means but he has a massive engine. The fences at Fairyhouse are nothing special to be honest, Leopardstown is a far stiffer test of jumping. Mount Benbulben would have beaten the RSA winner there aswell if he didn't veer off into Foxrock village in the straight. Depending on how testing this becomes his engine could be enough to see him home despite his obvious jumping frailties.

Oscars Well isn't actually that bad a jumper, he is definitely adequate enough to win this. He was outpaced in Leopardstown turning for home in the novices and never threatened afterwards, he was probably beat last time out before falling but that was a muddily enough affair. With the tongue strap on here I'd be content enough to think that the step up in trip will pay dividends, and will be backing him accordingly. The key is to keep him ticking along behind the pace for as long possible and deliver him late.

there's much worse bets out there than laying benbul, mik and dedi imo
i'd quite happily have the rest running for me

Fancy Oscars Well strongly for this weak G1.

Clear from the RTE Road to Cheltenham program the other night that the connections were v happy with his 2nd to Beneficient lto - and that was before the winner franked the form.

He looks to have been laid out for tomorrow.

    I'd concur with this.

I think i'll be in the Oscar Wells camp also. Strangely, his form has worked out the strongest of the 4 at the head of the market, yet he's the outsider of the bunch. He should improve for the step up in trip, and while he doesn't fill me with confidence, neither do the others. 4/1 looks a good price. I can see Mount Benbaulben being a drifter, with MdH and Dedigout fighting it out for favouritism.

If and we all know its a massive IF Mikael D'haguenet jumps cleanly he will win this quite comfortably IMO

Agree with this. If he could get a clear round in I think he'll win this.

Off topic but worth noting given this is the busiest thread today.
Court minstrel is running in his first handicap outing in plumpton today off a weight of 10-8. Short price fav. Ronaldo des mottes the danger IMO

    Re fairyhouse
Paddy power will go to Oscars well with Mikael the danger. Surprised the price if oscars well TBH.
Bright new dawn in the novice hurdle for me. As much as I thrashed his form before Cheltenham the second places behind the 1st and 3rd in the supreme novices gives him a solid chance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 327 ✭✭Arctic89

Sticking with my initial thoughts on this race and backed Buckers Bridge at 9.6 on the exchanges.

You could probably make a case for all the market principals and I just think he's been written off slightly and there's a bit of value left in his price.

    backed oscar at 4s and

placed layed mik d and mount ben at 2.58+2.56

If MDH doesn't fall he wins, Could be a good bet with PP on their fallers insurance market. I'll either be doing that or backing Buckers bridge

Brilliant!! Lovely horse hard to believe he drifted so much...hopefully those twats in coral give me best price but I doubt they'd be that generous :-)
Have him in a nice double also with oscars well

Could not believe in running the horse went out to about 18 when they started to close on him about 5 out and I said that he was getting a breather in. Was never in trouble at that stage don't know what the layers were thinking
