    Hi Guys,

Just found out something interesting today that I never knew about. Any 2008 car can be taxed based on CO2. You choose when you go to tax it. So if you have a 1995cc BMW dated 10th Jan 2008 you can choose whether it is done on C02 or CC. So on the CC its 710 and on CO2 it's 280. 131 - 140 280

Well blow me down with a feather duster. I never knew.

Only January to June 2008 registered cars can choose - well they are placed on the cheaper of CC or COs. After June its CO2 regardless.

    Where have you been? :)

I wonder if, as CO2 rates continue to 'adjust' over time, what if all of a sudden it's cheaper on the cc-rate: I mean, could you then select the 'other' model of taxation ?

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

That's the case for the 08 Suzuki Swift, this year it's 390 on co2, and 385 (I think) on cc :(. But I can't change it back to cc, I need the fiver towards the other car tax!! :)

...but did you actually ask the CoCo to change it ? (curious)

No. this happened with the 1.0 yaris already.

They were €156 to tax originally when a 1.0 was €172 on cc rates (in 08) now an 08 yaris is €270 on emissions and €199 on cc based.

(Toyota revised later Yariss so that the emissions dropped a bit)

    07CE2111
    0-1000
    Tax 12 months €199
    6 months €110
    3 months €56

    08RN828
    Emissions 121-130
    Tax 12 months €270
    6 months €149
    3 months €76

    09D20443
    Emissions 111-120
    Tax 12 months €200
    6 months €111
    3 months €56

    Not really.
The tax is the tax and they won't be able to change it. Put the reg into https://www.motortax.ie/ to find the rate.

Some people don't know that certain cars are cheaper to tax if they're reg'd before July. You could put the reg of one car into motortax.ie and assume they're all the same and be wrong.

Someone not in the maket for a new car 5 years ago may have let the whole emissions thing go over their head.

    cc - €994
    CO2 - €2350

I'll stick with the old system, thanks. It's slightly less rapey.
